When I opened Bliss
Spa in New York, it
was always manic,
with no room for error. But we had
to make sure clients never felt added
stress, and that treatments ran
exactly to time. One day I had a big
celebrity fashion designer come for
a facial. Flanked by bodyguards, she
was in a rush from the moment she
laid on the table and, at the last
minute, requested a leg wax and
eyebrow tint at the same time. Always
up for a challenge, I gathered the
tools I needed and planned my

strategy. But it was late in the day and
I left the brown tint on her bleach-
blonde brows 60 seconds too long,
turning them a shade of black that
can only be described as ‘caterpillar
noir’. With time running out, I mixed
up a bowl of bleach, delicately
tapped it on, waxed the remainder
of her lower leg and returned only to
find her brows had turned a lovely
shade of green. It took another 45
minutes and some carefully blended
tint, but I made sure she walked out
the door none the wiser and pleased
with her gorgeous arches.

THE DYE JOB

When I was a

young hairdresser,

a client asked me

to match her cuffs

know what I mean.

I was mortified

and obviously

declined the

request!

FILL ME IN
A lady came in for lip fillers.
I popped out of the room to get
some gauze, and when I came back, she was
naked on the couch with her legs spread. It
turned out she wanted her genitals enhanced.
We were both embarrassed, but I redirected her
to a colleague who could do what she wanted.
I should have known something was weird
when she said she was surprised a dermatologist
could do ‘lip’ fillers in the first place...
