What’s the deal with ...
Dry
conditioners?
Because we are just way too busy to
condition our hair in the shower
(apparently), behold a shiny new
trend for dry conditioners.
You mean leave-in conditioners?
No, those are water-based and provide
moisture – these are mostly lipid-based
and feed hair with micro-drops of light
oils, vitamins, proteins and antioxidants to
protect and strengthen. Just mist and go.
Like dry shampoos? Same principle,
different product – although some of them
swing both ways. Batiste Dry Shampoo
& Conditioner throws rice starch into the
mix to absorb scalp oils at the roots, while
squalane (a lipid) nourishes the ends. Ouai
Dry Shampoo Foam (a waterless foam)
absorbs impurities, but also
hydrates and conditions
lengths. Aveda and System
Professional’s dry conditioners
refresh grubby scalps with nice
smells but don’t cleanse.
Bit of a gimmick? Dry shampoo requires
more liberal use than dry conditioner,
so I don’t think the Batiste 2-in-1 really
works. But the straight-up dry conditioners
make your hair look and feel more
groomed in a second, without weighing
it down or leaving residue.
I’ll never have to wet my hair again!
Ewww. Like dry shampoos, dry
conditioners are quick-fix problem-solvers,
not substitutes for a thorough cleanse
