ime flies! We are almost halfway
through 2017 – and what on your
“to-cook” list have you managed to
tick off? My “to-cook” list grows every day.
So far this year I’ve wanted to cook just
about every recipe in every issue. I do
enjoy a challenge, but somehow this year
has gotten the better of me – and, like most
of us, although with every good intention,
I haven’t managed to fulfil my philosophy.
However, I have managed to do some
cooking, because it makes me happy. And,
when I cook, I experiment. I love trying out
new flavours and techniques, such as the
gluten-free gnocchi (p62). I also love seeing
my son, Orlando’s flavour palate blossom.
It’s such a huge success when a meal is met
with enthusiasm and questions, because I
believe that food should spark conversation!
This month, the big drawcard has been
homemade schnitzels. Chicken coated in
a combination of quinoa (makes me feel a
little bit trendy) and fresh breadcrumbs
(such a budget-friendly way to use up
leftover bread). And, with every main meal
comes a sweet-as dessert to wash it down.
Winter just wouldn’t be winter without a
self-saucing pudding, and our cover recipe
(p30) is an absolute winner! You should
also try our wonderful 10 ways with
scones (p64) – Mum will be proud – and
White Chocolate Macarons (p82). Snuggle
up and feel the love. ’Til next month,
