Hi Braulio,
I get to butterfly guard a lot (gi and nogi) but I struggle to have any
options past a regular butterfly sweep – any options?

Hi Pablo,
This is a great option (not for IBJJF events) to work on when your
opponent bases out well when trying to sweep from butterfly guard.
See how it works for you!

Heel Hook from Butterfly Guard 1/2. Starting from butterfly guard, push forwards and
get an underhook with your right arm. 3/4. Even when
you control your opponent’s right wrist and attempt
the sweep, they are able to base with their right
foot and defend the sweep. 5/6/7. At this point, you
circle your left leg outside your opponent’s left leg
as pictured, locking off a triangle to attack the heel
hook. This is a leg reap in IBJJF events, and of course
heel hooks are also illegal at those events. 8/9. As
you sit backwards to drop your opponent down to the
mat, keep their knee secured with both hands. 10/11.
Keeping your legs tight, reach backwards and secure
the heel hook as pictured.
