Storm Kimonos have really excelled themselves with the launch of
their limited edition ‘1996’ kimono, which is easily one of the best
gis we’ve ever worn.
Everything about this product screams excellence: the branding,
the quality of the materials used, the colours, and the extremely
exclusive production run (rumour has it that only 300 were made).
The product features a number of Storm exclusive innovations,
including Zero Hold Sleeve Technology® to prevent opponents
getting a strong grip and Storm Breathe Tec fabric® to help keep
you cool. The main jacket is also made from premium 550gsm
Japanese weave fabric, making this an absolute tank of a gi.
The indigo kimono is offset beautifully by gold and red detailing,
with the Storm wording on the lower back section of the jacket
really standing out for us. The font is gorgeous, the placement is
bold, and it’s just an exceptionally unique looking gi. The Storm
website states that the jacket is constructed using ‘five panel
responsive structure’. Now, we’re not too sure what this means,
but the detailed stitching and overall feel of the product seems
legit to us! You’ll be happy to know that the comfort and rolling
performance live up to expectations as well, with no signs of
wear after a solid six weeks of testing.
The A2 pants fit our 5ft 8in reviewer perfectly, sitting right on the
anklebone after numerous washes. Just like the jacket, they feel
indestructible, and the subtle Storm lightning bolt on the back of
the left calf section is a really nice touch.
Ok, so this is a pricey gi, but it’s also an extremely rare, limited edi-
tion gi – one that we can’t help but get out of the bag every hour
or so just to look at. With further innovations coming with their
future kimono offerings, we are really excited to see what Storm
come up with next.
