Jiu Jitsu Style - Issue 38 2017

(backadmin) #1
OVERVIEW
Adidas have returned with the second version of
their premium kimono, Contest 2.0, and it’s pretty
damn impressive. Though Adidas fans will always be
drawn to the iconic branding, this gi offers far more
than just aesthetic appeal.

THE JACKET
The jacket is made from 450gsm cotton, with eye-
catching contrast white stitching on our black sample
gi. The trademark Adidas three stripes are located
on both shoulders, but unlike the first version of the
Contest, the stripes do not run all the way down the
sleeves. This is an important change, as the previous
version of the kimono was not IBJJF legal. The main
Adidas logo is also located on the left chest of the
jacket; design is simple, yet stylish in the way you’d
expect of Adidas products. The inside neckline features
a camouflage design on rashguard style material,
a feature becoming more and more common with
kimonos nowadays.

Our A2 sample was slightly roomy straight out of the
bag, but after one wash – and with minimal shrinkage

  • it became a near perfect fit in both the body and
sleeves. For anyone harbouring fears that this will fit
like one of Adidas’ early judo kimonos, don’t. The cut
and style of the jacket is awesome, fitting in all the right
areas and leaving no excess material to grab.

TROUSERS
The trousers are constructed of 280 gsm,
100% pre-shrunk cotton, and also feature
white contrast stitching, just like the
jacket. The drawstring around the
waistline is secured by six loopholes -
three on each side – and does a great
job at keeping you comfy while rolling.

DETAILS
One of the best details about this
product is the silky-smooth cuff tape used
on the sleeves and trousers. Some high-
end kimonos neglect this part of the design
process, often using irritable, scratchy tape
on the areas that are often in contact with your
skin. With the Contest 2.0, you gain an extra level
of comfort around your wrists and ankles thanks to the
smooth cuff tape.
