For Faith, a banker and ultra-distance
runner, it was more a mental challenge than
a physical one. She said: “My willpower was
tested repeatedly, especially during the last few
exercises.” To prepare, she had supplemented
her daily weight trainings and runs with similar
exercise movements to that of the competition,
and focused on her weaker ones, like the
sandbag throws.
Both Jet and Faith went on to compete with
five other pairs of urban athletes from Malaysia,
the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei
in the regional finals, held in Kuala Lumpur on
May 6, 2017. These finals included functional
training challenges that emphasise the power,
strength, agility, endurance and stamina of

each participant. The overall male and female
champions walked away with a cash prize of
$2,500 each, and other awesome prizes.
The Singapore heats also had national
athletes and Under Armour brand ambassadors
challenge their physical limits and willpower – like
Chase Tan, actor and national basketball player;
Kelly Latimer, new mum and sports host; Royston
Wee, Singapore’s first MMA fighter to be listed
in the UFC; Stefanie Tan, Singapore’s No. 1 tennis
player; and Amanda Lim, national swimmer and
SE A Games gold medallist.
Additionally, Heiryl Ilham and Shirley Tan
both clocked the highest number of sandbag
throws during the Singapore heats. They
were awarded the Subaru Endurance Award,
and walked away with $100 worth of Subaru
merchandise each.
