Boyband Blues

ugh, it’s all playing out
like it does with every other
boyband. So Zayn Malik was
the “brave” one leaving One Di-
rection first; now Harry Styles
is the “creative genius” who
for some reason deserves to
be taken seriously. I wonder
which member of 1D will have
the failed solo career, and who’ll
end up strung out in the tab-
loids. It’s going to happen.

Trump’s Triumph

matt taibbi’s brilliant
take on Trump [RS 786] was
very accurate. It was replete

withblackhumouratitsbest.
However, Trump didn’t real-
ly win the election. Hillary lost
it. The crucible that is congress
longagolostitspowertorep-
resent, thanks to corporate
lobbying. Trump is simply the
endproductofabadlycom-
promised system: a triumph of
styleoversubstance.

Rise and Fall

i loved your issue with
Paris Jackson on the cover [RS
785]. It was a totally banging
well rounded edition – best
of all a great mix of Austra-
lian (Holly Throsby/AOELIT)
and international (Laura Mar-
ling, Run the Jewels). It seemed
fresh and relevant. However,
the edition with Ed Sheeran
on the cover [RS 786] (nothing
against that article please note)
is so run of the mill bat shit bor-
ing that it has left me to email
you. This time very few women
and just generally so beige and
MOR. That ba nd who recorded
in LA, the ones all dressed in
white – who the hell are they?
That issue dropped the ball that
you’d lifted very highly only a
month before.

[RS787]butcan’thelppon-

Cool on Cassettes

“rock the cassette!” says
Henry Rollins excitedly in his
latest column [RS 787]. Se-
riously, Henry? Perhaps all
those years of screaming your
guts out have dimmed your
brain cells (alcohol and drugs
wouldn’t have done it, because
you don’t do either, as you tell
us over, and over, and ... yawn).
The comeback of the cassette
is nothing more than the latest
hipster fad, destined to be over
by tonight. Cassettes warp, they
get tangled and they sound shit.
Now everyone, please get back
to what you were doing, and
Henry, stop being a douche.
