or their holiday home in Bronte, this family
from Hong Kong were after a modern design
which felt Miami Fabulous. The owners
selected interior and architecture fi rm Design
Bubble, along with Cradle Design Studio, to completely
remodel their original 1980s home.
The original U-shaped kitchen was completely
fl ipped and made into a beautiful open-plan space,
perfect for large events and entertaining. The laundry
and kitchen walls were removed to create this open
space. Instead of having a separate laundry, designer
Jessica Williams decided to incorporate the laundry
into the kitchen space. All neatly hidden behind the
kitchen joinery is the washing machine, dryer and
hanging space.
Inspired by nearby Bronte Beach, the consistent
colour palette of crisp whites features pastel colours
and punchy turquoise, an accurate representation
of the location. The client “was not afraid of textures
and patterns, so we layered these wherever we could”.
This is shown subtly in the kitchen through the marble
splashback and island bench. Along with copper and
black tones featured throughout the kitchen, it adds a
very chic and modern element to the design.
This kitchen is extremely bright during the day,
with natural light fl ooding in through the water-
facing window, refl ecting off the bright, white
cupboards. In order to have the same eff ect at night,
the lighting design consists mainly of energy-effi cient
LED downlights, which are bright enough to produce
the same light which refl ects off the cupboards.
This kitchen has done a full 360. A dated space
with very little life has been transformed into an
entertainer’s paradise fi lled with light and class.
