New evidence backs up the health beneits of a 5:2-style ‘fasting’ diet. By
spending just ive days a month consuming a modest 3000 to 4500 kJ (or 750
and 1,100 cals), and eating normally on other days for three months, study
participants beneited from lowered blood pressure, a 2.7kg weight loss and a
5cm reduction around their waist. Even more impressive: when measured three
months after resuming normal eating routines, the beneits were still there.

Nutrition now

To reduce your risk of
type 2 diabetes, the latest
international guidelines
recommend four foods
to devour at your will:

  • oats;

  • nuts;

  • berries; and

  • yoghurt.
    Why not combine them
    all at once into a delicious
    breakfast-on-the-go that
    will get you ahead of
    diabetes (and your day!).
    Blend into a smoothie, or
    layer them in a glass jar
    the night before.
