his is the true story of Smoky a Yorkshire
terrier who was found in February 1944
hiding in the war-ravaged jungles of Papua
New Guinea. His rescuer Bill Wynne a crewman
with the US 5th Air Forceâs 26th Photo
Reconnaissance Squadron kept the tiny dog
in his tent at night and at his feet during combat
missions. In return Smoky proved her
devotion by saving Billâs life on numerous
occasions. Smoky was posthumously
awarded the PDSAâs Certificate for Animal
