Girlfriend Australia — Autumn 2017

(avery) #1

C: If the person I really liked happened to be a fan, then I wouldn’t
see a problem with that.
E: I agree.

HAS A GIRL EVER CAUGHT YOUR EYE IN THE CROWD
OF ONE OF YOUR SHOWS?
J: Yes. Absolutely. But I’m not saying which show. A true musician
never tells his secrets.
E: I think it’s magician, you idiot.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL DATE?
J: Go out for food, let the girl choose where she wants to go.
You know, make her happy – even though I hate sushi, I’d eat
sushi. Then take her to a movie and be really nice.
C: Probably a nice walk on the beach and dinner. A good chat,
no awkward moments.
J: I reckon dinner is good because if you have an awkward
silence you can eat, and while you’re eating you can think
of something to talk about.
E: I’m a very experience-based person, so I would take them
to experience something.
C: Like dinner on the Eiffel Tower and then bungee-jumping off?
J: That’s my engagement plan. Like when I propose to someone,
I’m going to ask them on top of the Eiffel Tower. But not the
bungee-jump part.

WHAT’S THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN
ON A DATE?
J: She spits her food at you and tells you to get lost. Or you
get friendzoned, like she says, “You’re a really good friend.”
Or even worse: “You’re like a brother to me.”
C: Ohhhh “brother”! That’s the worst!
J: Or you go in for the kiss and she dodges.
C: Yeah, you try to make a move and you get completely dodged!
E: Yeah, the dodge is definitely the worst. I’ve experienced that.

KISSING ON THE FIRST DATE – YES OR NO?
J: Depends, it’s about when the moment is right.
E: Yeah, you can’t timeframe that sort of stuff.
C: It’s an in-the-moment thing.
J: When you know, you know.

AFTER A SUCCESSFUL DATE WOULD YOU TEXT,
CALL OR DM?
C: DM? That’s not OK!
E: Yeah, that’s bad. You would have to text. If you’ve been on a date,
you should at least have their number.
C: You can’t take someone on a date and then still be sliding into
their DMs like a creep.
J: Yeah, definitely a text.
E: After the first date, if it went really well, then you can call and say
what a nice time you had.
J: Nooooo! Then you’re basically spilling your heart out to them.
C: You gotta play it cool, you’ve only been on one date, so I would
just send a nice text.
E: You guys are thinking too hard about it. I reckon call them.
J: Nah, send a text saying, “I had a great time lets do this
again soon.”
C: And I would send it as soon as I got home from the date.

WHAT DO GI RLS DO THAT YOU F I N D CON FUSI NG?
E: EVERYTHING.
C: So many mixed messages.
J: Yeah, you sometimes think they want you and then next minute
they act like they don’t.
C: They know, they always know.
E: Guys have two settings: ‘I like you’ or ‘I don’t like you’. With girls
there is, “I maybe like you, but I’m not too sure about that because
you see in the current time and place in the universe I don’t think
my star sign aligns and the planets aren’t correct...”

IN THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR “GIRLFRIEND” YOU WERE EACH
PAIRED UP WITH A GIRLFRIEND... WAS YOUR GIRL’S
FASHION LOOK THE KIND YOU’D GO FOR IRL?
J: The three girls all looked absolutely gorgeous.
C: Yeah, I agree.

IF YOU COULD DATE SOMEONE FAMOUS, WHO WOULD
IT BE AND WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE THEM?
C: All my celeb crushes are so much older than me. They’re all like

  1. I feel like a date would be awkward.
J: That’s OK, by the time you turn 18, they’ll be 22. You’ll be ready,
mate. I’d take Zara Larsson on a picnic.
E: Jakob Delgado. And I’d take him to the In Stereo recording studio
    so we could make music.

If the person I really
liked happened to be

a fan, I wouldn’t see
a problem with that.
