Do not worry – the teacher is not expecting you
to know everything and will be impressed if you
take courage and try your best at a step that is
not at present in your vocabulary

Will the class include
warm-up?
You will be expected to have
warmed up prior to the audition. After registration,
you will be directed to one of the dance studios
where you will have the opportunity to do your
own-warm-up. The time allocated for this activity
is one hour.
How long will the audition class be? Will it be a
full class?
It depends on which course you are
auditioning for as the audition process for the
two courses is different.
If you are auditioning for the Bachelor of Fine
Arts (Dance) course, you will do a 30-minute
ballet barre, a 45-minute jazz/hip hop class and
a 90-minute contemporary class.
If you are auditioning for the Bachelor of Fine
Arts (Dance Performance) course, you will do a
90-minute ballet class and a 90-minute
contemporary class.
At what level are the classes pitched? Will I
need my pointe shoes?
All classes in the BFA (Dance) audition are
pitched at an intermediate level and there is no
pointe component.
Classes in the BFA (Dance Performance)
audition are pitched at advanced level and
include pointe work for the women. Men’s
specialisation exercises will be given for the men.
Will exercises be demonstrated on both sides
or one side only?
The teacher will (in most instances) demonstrate
exercises on both sides. However, you may also
be required to work out exercises on the other
side without the assistance of the teacher.
Will I be asked to perform solo during the
audition class?
Only if you are auditioning for the BFA
(Dance Performance) course and you have
