108 cancer hospitals across India are planning to launch DigiLocker
to store medical information of registered patients. DigiLocker or
digital locker is a Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)
initiative of government of india that provides an online space of 1GB,
links it with Aadhaar card details and allows one to store documents.
A person can store driving licence, university marksheets and PAN
information in the locker and link it with his or her Aadhaar card to
reduce the hassle of carrying documents for verification.
While the issue of linking Aadhaar information to several centers
schemes is facing heat on grounds of personal security, the Tata
Memorial Hospital (TMH) plans to utilise the online digital space for
only willing patients who register.
Under the National Cancer Grid (NCG), spearheaded by the TMH,
the country’s specialised cancer hospitals conduct video conferences
to brainstorm on difficult cases. Currently, 108 hospitals are part of
the NCG and together, they treat around 60 per cent of cancer cases
in India.The Union Cabinet approved

after the cabinet meeting
chaired by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi. Initiation
of collaborative research,training and scientific
capacity building in the
field of alternative medicine
under the JDI between
the two countries would
contribute to the enhanced
employment opportunities
in the Ayush sector. The
financial resources necessary
to conduct research, training
courses, conferences and
meetings will be met from
the existing allocated budget
and existing plan schemes
of Ministry of Ayush. India
has well-developed systems
of traditional medicine,
which hold tremendous
potential in the global health
scenario and Germany
has considerable interest
in traditional systems of

ICMR signs agreement with
Emami to develop herbal drugs
Indian Council of Medical Research
(ICMR) and Emami Healthcare
have signed two memoranda of
understanding (MoU), one for
the development of standardized
phytopharmaceutical formulation
to prevent or delay the development
of Type-2 Diabetes in people with
pre-diabetes and another for the
development of standardized herbal
or ayurvedic formulation to treat
sleep disorders.
The MoUs were signed by Dr
Soumya Swaminathan, Director
General, ICMR, New Delhi and
Dr C K Katiyar, CEO, Emami
Healthcare, Kolkata. ICMR will
mainly support and manage the
pre-clinical, toxicological and
clinical development phase of the
product development programmes,
whereas the industry will look
after and undertake the chemistry,
manufacturing and control (CMC)
part of the product development
phase.
Emami Healthcare is expected to
manufacture the herbal drugs within
a period of 18 months. The company
will take care of all CMC (Chemistry,
Manufacturing, and Control)
including pre-clinical toxicology,
and later on ICMR will sponsor
the clinical trials at AIIMS to
prove the safe parameters and
effectiveness of the drugs.
