ittenhouse Archives brought back Buffy The Vampire Slayer
in trading card form in 2015. After an eight-year gap, Buffy
fans were thrilled. Steve Charendoff, president of Ritten-
house Archives, explains the approach to revisiting one of the most
popular card series of all time:
“Our focus with Buffy has always been to create cards that
complement what had already been done in previous card sets. The
obvious key was having Sarah Michelle Gellar sign cards, since she
had never done that before for any other Buffy sets. Alyson Hannigan,
although she had signed once before, has been hugely popular
among the fans, and we felt there was room to offer more signed
cards of her, including a dual autograph of her with her husband,
Alexis Denisof, who had a small, but recurring role on the show, too.
Lastly, Seth Green, who has also been a big fan favorite and who has
gone onto much greater stardom, had never signed cards before, so
getting him to sign Buffy cards was a key for us, too.
We have been asked by many dealers and collectors whether
we would create a full series of cards — perhaps The Complete
Buffy or something similar, but that would essentially force us
to duplicate much of what had been done previously. Again, we
focused on what hadn’t already been done, including a metal
card, sketch cards and other types of cards that collectors did not
already have. Sketches certainly have been extremely popular and
in high demand among the Buffy collectors, and all of the collec-
tors’ sets we’ve made and will make include sketch cards. We’ve
had some of the very best sketch artists rally around these projects
and produce outstanding work.” Look for Rittenhouse’s Ultimate
Collector’s’ Set 3 in November.

In 2004, following the conclusion of the television series, Inkworks released a limited edition
package that presented the base sets for all seven seasons, reprinted in 20-point, foil-stamped
card stock. This was sold as a factory set, including a collector album and special card coffi n,
numbered to 2,500 copies. This collection did not include any of the original chase sets, nor
did it offer any autograph cards. It did include one exclusive bonus card for each season.
