The “M” Word
I just wanted to thank Oxygen magazine for
the menopause article in the July/August
2017 issue. I have been an avid reader since

  1. I am a fi t, 40-year-old woman who had a
    complete hysterectomy (including cervix and
ovaries) in December 2016 due to adenomyo-
sis. It’s important to include articles like this
because menopause can even hit before the
typical age and because fi tness is extremely
    important at any age.

Veg-Friendly Options
First, I just want to say how much I enjoy
Oxygen. I feel like I learn something with every
issue. I’m always excited and interested to check
out your Oxygen Challenges, but I was curious
if you’ve ever considered featuring one of your
vegan athletes in The Oxygen Challenge. As
a dairy-free pescatarian, I would fi nd such a
program very compelling, especially because
it’s one that doesn’t get a lot of play. I know
that you often have a vegetarian/vegan option
in the Challenge, but it often appears to be an
afterthought (to be honest). Flipping it to have
a plant-based program as the primary and a
meat-based as the secondary option would be
something that I’d jump at.

Editor’s note: Our Oxygen Challenge
coaches create meal plans based on how
they eat, which is why we have not had a
primarily plant-based option so far. However,
this year, for OC3, Jamie Eason Middleton
created a vegetarian/vegan plan in addi-
tion to her regular plan to meet that need.
Having said that, as we get more requests for
plant-based meal plans in the magazine and
for The Oxygen Challenge, we are working
harder to address that.

Mature Muscle
It was fantastic to read “ESB’s” letter in
your May/June issue. I am also a longtime
subscriber who has worked out daily with
running or weightlifting since my 20s. I am

  1. I am so pleased to learn that you will be
addressing physical fi tness as we age. I do
wonder how many readers are in our age
    group.
As a side note, I broke my wrist a
few years ago. The surgeon was unde-
cided about operating. He decided to do
it because I wanted to continue doing 50
    men’s push-ups when I trained. I was lucky
because it was worse than he thought — 10
pins and a plate. There are many surprise
    benefi ts to exercise.
