“The Mirrors are space-travellers and
discoverers. They are the equivalent of the
Vikings on Earth, in a way. They don’t stay
long in one place, so they have a little
representation on Alpha but the rest of them
are off travelling all the time. They really push
the limits, going far into the universe and
beyond, then come back with a lot of
information about what they find.
“They’re not really even part of our story,
but they pop up from time to time in the
background of a scene. We have almost 2,000
different types of alien, so this is just a taste.
The most incredible character in the entire film
is an alien called Bubble, played by Rihanna. But
I can’t tell you more — if I give that up, I will eat
up half your pleasure. When you see her, you’re
not going to believe her.”

“Like the KCP02, the Martapuraï are liquid
animals. They’re pretty peaceful also, but it’s very
complicated for them to move, so they have these
huge pieces of scaffolding around them. No-one
can see exactly what they look like, because of
the scaffolding. You can see only their head.
They’re very sensitive too — they can read your
mind. If you come too close to them, they will
know everything.”
