Thanks to comparethemarket.com.au, a
host of new research into the love we have
for our cats and dogs has been uncovered,
with the company’s survey of 1000 Australian
adult pet owners revealing we’re more in
love with our furry friends than ever! From
treating our pets to human experiences
to letting our dogs sleep in the bed, the
survey revealed some great information.
For example, did you know that dog owners
are more likely to cook a separate meal for
their pets than cat owners, with 41 per cent
of pup parents dishing up a second dinner?
Meanwhile 66 per cent of cat owners let their
felines sleep in the bed with them, compared
to 56 per cent of dog owners.
We also weren’t surprised to learn that half
of the survey respondents in the 18–24-year-
old age group have bought their pet abirthday present, while only one in four
(24 per cent) of the 55–64s have done the
same. This younger group is also more likely
to invest in clothing for their pet, with 23 per
cent having done so versus just four per cent
of the over 65-year-old age group — seems
like our younger pet owners are ensuring
their furry friends stay warm (and look
good while doing so!).
The survey also revealed some interesting
facts when it comes to pet insurance. “Pet
owners are also increasingly taking up pet
insurance, with our survey revealing more
than 50 per cent of pet owners have or
would, purchase insurance,” Abigail Koch,
spokesperson for comparethemarket.
com.au, says, “Policies can cover costs such
as veterinary treatment in the case of pet
illnesses or injuries and depending on your
level of cover, general check-ups.”
