ello there,
And welcome to
another issue of PETS magazine!
It is with a heavy heart that I write that one of my dogs,
Danger, is becoming a senior canine. At the ripe old age
of eight, she’s always been a very active and excitable
Staff y cross; however, recently, I’ve started to notice several
symptoms of old age. She’s slowing down when it comes to
our morning walks and while once she would spring out of
bed and race around the yard after birds, she now prefers
to lounge in front of the heater, particularly during the cool
winter mornings.
She’s still the same aff ectionate dog, though, and we love
spending time together, even if it is a little concerning that
perhaps the furry best friend I thought would always be there
is reaching the end of her days. To ensure she stays with me as
long as possible, I’ve read Live Long and Prosper, our guide to
helping your cat and dog reach maximum old age in the best
of health. We also have a great article on exercising your older
dog — make sure you read this one if you have a senior pooch
to avoid illness and still keep Fido fi t.
Of course, that’s not all we have in store for you. As well
as focusing on senior pets, we’ve taken a look at some of
our favourite Aussie animals. No, you can’t keep them as
pets, but they are a part of what makes our country great
and we can all benefi t from knowing more about them. In
addition to this, we look at what to do if you fi nd an animal
in need of rescue and discover just what it takes to become
a zookeeper — could you be the next employee at Taronga
or the Australian Reptile Park?
We also have a terrifi c read on bullying at the dog park,
interesting facts on cat ownership and some fascinating
creature features that focus on everything from this issue’s
gorgeous cover model, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, to
a cat, a parrot and even a fi sh.
So sit back, relax and enjoy this issue of PETS. Give your
furry friend a hug from me!
