start. You can place treats or food in the Puppy
KONG and encourage your puppy to chew on it
regularly. Whenever your puppy starts to chew
an inappropriate object, redirect him to the
KONG and this will quickly become a habit.
To prevent the chewing of inappropriate
items, restrict your puppy to areas of your
home or garden that have been puppy-
proofed. Confi ning your pup with a crate or
playpen can keep her out of mischief and your
treasured possessions safe. But always place
your pup with something safe to chew on so
she sees her area of confi nement as a happy
place to go.

  1. BITING
Puppies instinctively like to explore their
environment with their mouths. They will
happily bite, nip and mouth a range of objects,
including people. This is a natural behaviour,
and one which many new puppy owners initially
think is cute. It might start out as a bit of fun, but
can quickly escalate to become a problem that
should not be tolerated or rewarded.
    Consistently encourage suitable behaviour
    and discourage unsuitable behaviour. When
a puppy play-bites redirect him towards toys

that he’s allowed to bite and chew. The KONG
Puppy Tire is made of rubber specifi cally
designed for puppy teeth and is a great toy
to off er as an alternative to your hands and
feet. The stuff able inner track creates a mental
challenge for puppies while teaching correct
chewing habits.

  1. TOILETING
Start toilet training your puppy as soon as you
bring him home. Puppies will instinctively want
to go to the toilet when they wake up and
straight after eating and drinking, so be ready
to take them outside when this occurs. Place
your puppy where you want her to toilet, wait
for her to go and then make a fuss of her and
reward her. Watch for signs such as circling,
which often indicates a puppy needs to go to
the toilet, and be sure to put your pup out to
toilet before going to bed at night. Accidents
will happen, but be prepared, be patient and
    be consistent.
