OTOGRAPH
Like a red lip or a French manicure, a smoky eye
is a cult beauty classic destined to return time and
time again to our beauty armoury. As the look
returns to the runways once again for autumn, it
is reimagined in ever bolder outlines and colourful
hues. At Alberta Ferretti, Tom Pecheux gave
the classic grey smoky eye a twist by applying
gold at the inner corners and Mac’s Paint Stick
in Basic Red at the centre, while at Balmain he
daubed oversized graphic strobes with bronze and
rusty metallics. At Marni, Elie Saab and Chloé,
underliner was heavily applied to create grungier
smoky looks. However you
choose to approach it,
forget the subtle silver,
black and pearl shades of
yester-smoke; this is the
look’s rebellious, late-
night-partying, chain-
smoking older sister. This
is the smoky eye 2.0.
