There was a simplicity to the
Valentino couture collection that
hasn’t been seen recently from
the high-octane Italian house. The
heavy embroidery and beaded
embellishments once favoured
by Pierpaolo Piccioli have been
replaced by clean shapes, simple
lines and graceful, sensual
materials. Adornment came in
the form of colour blocking and
brocade inlays on cashmere and
lace, while silhouettes were modest
and fluid, with dresses falling from
neck to ankle.
