Walking on

SUNSHINE

I READ SOMETHING
interesting about the
human mind being
geared towards
negativity recently.
Apparently this has
served us well from
an evolutionary perspective, as being
attuned to potential dangers has
ensured our survival. This has created
minds that may be a little less
optimistic than what we would like
them to be in the modern world.
As a result, we sometimes end up
unnecessarily stuck in our fight-or-
flight response, leaving less time for
resting and digesting, and creating
dis-ease in our bodies and minds.
The suggestion for balancing out this
natural tendency towards the less
pleasant aspects of life is to spend
a few moments at the end of each
day reflecting on the positive. I’ve
integrated this habit into my own life,
mentally noting ten positive elements
of the day as I drift off to sleep at
night. On a challenging day, this
might simply be something that I ate,
or the fact that I have a roof over my
head. But it’s amazing how quickly
the rational mind sums up the pros
and cons and realises just how
fortunate we are.
Spring is a great time to begin to
foster more positivity, and from that
space we often find ourselves feeling

more motivated and creative.
Personally, I felt so inspired when
putting this issue together, so I hope
you, dear yogi readers, can feel the
love bursting from the pages,
because we all have you in mind as
we create each edition. There’s so
much to follow that speaks to me,
from the sustainable recipes (p. 56)
to some fun spring DIY inspiration
(p. 86), the beautiful Kino MacGregor’s
guidance towards peace (p.40) and
some tips to spring clean your life —
inside and out (p.52). We’ve also
added some serious asana inspiration
(p.10, p.24, p.39, p.64, p.78 and p.82)
for you to draw on as your body
experiences the lightness of spring as
well as some simple anatomical
guidance to avoid injury in your (and
your students’) practice (p.48). I’ve
happily devoured every page, and I
hope you will too.
I look forward to bringing you
more sunshine as we flow through
the warmer months, together.

Shine your light,
