DJI SPARK
If DJI hadn’t already cornered the drone market
it certainly has now. The recent release of the
DJI Spark has raised the bar yet again with a
drone that has serious video capabilities, but
is around the same size as a phone. In fact, it
uses a smartphone as a remote control. The
Spark boasts 16-minute flight time, a flight
range of up to two kilometres, steady, high-
definition footage and fits into a jacket pocket.
All this at the competitive price of $859. Game
changed.

APPLE HOMEPOD
It was only a matter of time before Apple threw its hat
into the smart-speaker ring. HomePod was unveiled
recently with traditional Apple fanfare. It’s a cylindrical
pod/speaker featuring Siri for voice automation, a woofer
and seven tweeter speakers. The unit carries an array of
microphones so it can be easily controlled by voice using
Apple’s new HomeKit platform. It’ll also allow controlling
other household features like lights, garage remotes and
air conditioning. Price is yet to be announced and the
speaker goes on sale in December.
