we could support each other and we even
helped each other on a few spots.
“This year I found my way easily on the
tracks and I knew what I had to do, so I ended
up with a winning time. I’m really happy.”
Jarvis had lost out to Webb in a 2016 event,
so it was no wonder he was smiling after
this one.

Fun?
Webb, riding for the first time in Minas Gerais,
had a strong debut, improving on his third
place in the prologue to sit behind Jarvis
by the competition’s shortened end. The
American had proved he was one to watch

with an excellent second place in 2016’s Red
Bull Hare Scramble.
“It was insane,” he drawled in his Yank
accent. “I’ve been in very hard competitions,
but nothing compares to a race where you
have to ride for five hours daily in very
complicated terrain. The mountains here
are crazy and I’ve never been riding in the
middle of the forests. I consider all of this an
amazing experience.”
Rigor Rico, who won the silver category last
year, showed promise and ended up as the
best Brazilian rider in seventh place.
Event organiser Martin Freinademetz
explained, “It’s a pity the race was shorter

than planned. Unfortunately conditions didn’t
allow the original length of the race. However,
tough conditions will never spoil the fun in
extreme enduro.”
Onya, Marty. We’re guessing you weren’t
riding, then.
