What Tradies Want — August-September 2017

WHAT TRADIES WANT. 63

tipper is going to save time and money with its
unloading capabilities.
The 1630kg payload and 3500kg braked
towing capacity are up there with the best
in class. Even more impressive was that we
averaged just 12.9l/100km driving around the
’burbs in this workhorse, so I figure you’d get
close to 800km per tank.
All in all, the Iveco Daily Three-Way tipper was
a great ride, and an all-round, ultra-productive
work beast.
Very well done Iveco.

TEST #2: THE CABIN
My initial response when stepping up into the
cabin was that it felt more like a European car
than a truck or a tipper. The layout of the dash
was stylish and functional and on further
investigation I was extremely impressed
with the amount of storage factored in. Every
conceivable space had been turned into a
storage compartment, from under the seats
to the dash and the overhead compartment.
We fitted a backpack, a camera bag and a box
containing a drone all under the front seats.
There’s plenty of space for tradie items, from
plans/paperwork, phones, drinks and more.
The seats themselves are very comfortable

with heating, suspension and height all
adjustable. The IVECONNECT multimedia
system has a 15.75cm touch screen, Sat
Nav, DAB compatibility, USB, Bluetooth
and is reversing-camera ready, allowing the
buyer to choose the most appropriate area to
position the camera. The cabin is also fitted
standard with four airbags (driver/passenger
and side windows).
The bench seat for the third person is also
great when that extra help is needed.

TEST #3: ABOUT THE FEEL
The Daily felt amazingly comfortable to drive,
and the smooth ride can be attributed to the
class-leading eight-speed, high-performance
transmission along with the three-litre turbo-
diesel engine.
Of course, no self-respecting automotive
manufacturer like Iveco is going to stop there.
The variable geometric turbo and common-
rail diesel add a pile of grunt and improve fuel
economy respectively.
It all makes for a fantastic driving experience
with all the power needed to get some serious
work done.
Other nice additions worth mentioning are
Generation 9-ABS, EBD and ASR. In laymen’s
terms that means a great stability program,
trailer-sway mitigation and hill-hold assist.
There’s also a rear differential lock for added
traction on muddy work sites.

THE RESULT...
The Italian-made Iveco is a serious contender
for a good number of trades and work
professionals. Every builder I know would
love to get their mittens on one of these. From
material deliveries to tip runs, the Three-Way
