Surfing Life — Issue 337 2017

(nextflipdebug5) #1
Of course you do. Maybe
you scratched away at your
pocket money for half a year,
eventually slinging three
hundred bucks at a long-haired
stud on Gumtree whose move
to retro-fab Byron Bay meant he
had a surplus five-six Rubble.
Or your parents caved in after
a year of yapping in their ears
and that Lost Rocket you’d been
eyeballing in the racks was yours.
Maybe it was a birthday gift you
didn’t know you wanted.

And this gift, this creation, this
sculpture, took you to places,
threw obstacles in front of you,
challenged you, rewarded you.
In the next issue of Surfing
Life every inch of The Surfboard
is examined. First, we drew up a
list of the world’s most significant
shapers, the jet-setters and the local
heroes. The categories included,
‘absolutely forbidden’, ‘reluctantly
allowed’ and ‘Must Get At All Cost’.
You want to see if it’s possible
to make a board that works in two-

foot and eight-foot waves?
You want to see what happens
when the two most important
shapers in the world combine to
create the one design?
You want to learn how to see,
actually see and not pretend you
see, concave?
You want a definitive
explanation of every element of
your surfboard?
You want to put down a surfing
magazine smarter than when you
waltzed in? Of course!

Do you remember your first surfboard?
