ODDITIES

F

rom Waimea Bay to Noosa
Heads, the general rule of
thumb goes that waves are biggest
on the outside and dissipate
towards the shoulder. Riding them
is a fairly straightforward affair:
take off at the apex, then go as far
as you can until you either fall or
the wave ends. Simple, right?

But some waves don’t play by
the rules. They twist hydro-
dynamics around, throwing
up steps, tempting you into
closeouts, or even get bigger and
more challenging the further you
ride ’em.

Life as we explore... Wave Oddities.
