the hair equivalent of ‘no makeup’
makeup,” says hairstylist Michael
Dueñas, who has worked with Ariel
Winter and Noah Cyrus. “The inten-
tionally ‘messy’ plaits add natural
texture to any glam getup without
the fuss of an elaborate style.”
Bonus? Loosely pulled-back braids
keep the neck cool and give sexy
shoulders the spotlight. Dueñas’ key
to the imperfect style: Prep strands

SOFT SIDE-PONY BRAID: YOUTHFUL
“Nicole Kidman’s part-braid, part-pony is fun and flirty,”
says Dueñas. To do: Wrap 2-inch sections of hair around a
1-inch curling iron. Then pull hair to one side and loosely
braid the bottom third from neck to ends; secure with elasti

LOOSE BACK BRAID: ROMANTIC
“The combo of Jessica Chastain’s soft curls and barely
there braid adds a soft, feminine feel,” says Dueñas. To do:
Curl 2-inch sections of hair with a 1-and-a-half-inch curling
iron, pull the sides back over the ears and braid, stopping
after one weave. Tuck and pin the rest into curls in back.
