Samantha, who has squirrelled away all
The Weekly souvenir editions from the
royal weddings, still looks to Diana for
style pointers. “She really is one of the
all-time classically elegant women,”
says the Sunrise co-host.
“By the end of her life, she’d just hit
her stride.” Samantha vividly recalls that
Sunday morning when she, a uni student,
huddled around a TV with friends and
watched the terrible news of Diana’s
death unfold. “We were all in tears,”
says Samantha. “You felt like you’d lost
a member of the family.” With age has
come a growing awareness of her own
mortality and a desire to live more in the
present. For inspiration, Samantha looks
to her grandmothers: strong, capable,
country women “who lived good, happy,
honest lives and just got on with it”.
