Race favourite Jarvis got a bad
startandwasforcedtoworkhis
way through dozens of riders. The
Brit eventually crossed the finish
line 3min behind Gomez.
“I’m happy with second. Hats
offtoAlfredo,hewasverystrong.
He rode a great race, and I just
wasn’t able to get close enough to
him early enough,” Jarvis said.
“I didn’t get a good start and
then lost five or six positions
whenImesseduponeofthehills.
I was behind then in some of the
single-file wood sections. I had

A peak only slows you down...

More KTM and Husky podiums

one of the roughest ones I’ve
done – it was all deep ruts and
square-edged holes.”
Former Hattah champion
Josh Green was forced to
withdraw due to clutch issues
on his Activ8 Yamaha
WR450F. The DNF was his
second in two months, after
Green was also forced to
withdraw from Finke with
engine troubles.
Desert racing duo Todd and
Jake Smith prologued
strongly on their Hondas but
were unable to crack the

top-10. With desert experts
such as the Smiths and Green
missing, the fi rst 10 fi nishers
were all mounted on either
KTM or Husqvarna.
Meghan Rutledge
impressed everyone to come
out and win the Women’s
class on a KX250F at her fi rst
attempt. The Kawasaki rider
fi nished 1min 42sec ahead of
Husqvarna’s Danielle Foot,
who won it last year.
Yamaha’s Emelie Karlsson
was third.

congrats to them. I got a great
start but I possibly pushed a little
too hard.”
Three-time winner Jonny
Walker was on pace to secure his
fourth Erzberg title but a last-
minute tyre choice proved costly,
“I got a great start and was going
really well early on,” explained
Walker. “I opted for a specifi c tyre
but, unfortunately, it didn’t work
out as I hoped it would.
“I felt like I was riding well
and that I had the speed to win,
and felt good leading for much of
the fi rst hour. But I was having to
carry my bike over too much stuff
because of my tyre, rather than
being able to ride up and over it.
“It’s disappointing because I
know I’m riding well and my bike
was awesome, but this result
doesn’t show it.” Walker fi nished
fi fth, behind Sherco’s Wade Young.
