FERRIS IN BEAST MODE
CDR Yamaha’s Dean Ferris is leading
the Motul MX Nationals by 54 points
from KTM’s Kirk Gibbs after six back-
to-back overall wins in seven rounds.
Ferris has only dropped three motos
and one overall, with Gibbs being the
only other rider to claim a win and
overall. Yamaha’s Kade Mosig is third.
GIRL POWER
It’s been long overdue but organisers
of the Manjimup 15000 fi nally
introduced a women’s class for the
very fi rst time at this year’s event
29 women banged ‘bars at the sandy
track, which isn’t far off the numbers
seen in the women’s class at the MX
Nats. Current Australian MX champ,
Jess Moore, took out the title.
HOLCOMBE IN CHARGE
Beta’s Steve Holcombe is leading the
EnduroGP Championship by 28 points
from Yamaha’s Loïc Larrieu and with
two weekends of racing to go is well
positioned to take the title. Tasmania’s
Matthew Phillips (Sherco 300SEF-R)
is fi fth overall with one round win and
a series of podium results. Enduro
rookie Daniel Sanders (Vic, KTM) is
sixth in that class.
COME AND TRY DAY
Come and try days are a great way
to market your brand with the likes
of KTM, Husky, Sherco and Beta all
getting involved. In mid-July Sherco
held a ride day at the infamous
Wildwood Rock Extreme Enduro
complex and had over 60 people turn
out. Keep an eye out for a ride day on
one of one of these brands near you.

LEVI SHERWOOD HASrewritten
the record books at the Red Bull
X-Fighters. In front of nearly 20,
screaming Spanish fans, the New
Zealander executed two perfect
Double Backfl ips in a single run,
becoming the fi rst FMX rider to pull
off the insane feat.
It’s Sherwood’s second victory
at the iconic Plaza de Toros de
Las Ventas in Madrid as he took
top honours there in 2012. “You
have no idea how nice this is,” said
Sherwood. “It’s been a long time
coming. The wins are fewer and
farther between. It’s been such a
long time since I’ve won a Red Bull
X-Fighters. This feels really good.”
The win is Sherwood’s ninth
X-Fighters victory and his fi rst
since 2014 in Osaka, Japan. It’s also
a signifi cant improvement on his
fourth last year. WA’s Josh Sheehan
took second and Japan’s Taka
Higashino was third while Adam
Jones of the U.S. was fourth.
Thomas Pages could do nothing
to defend his title due to a shoulder
injury. The event was on the brink
of being cancelled after days of rain
soaked the bullring.

The skies cleared on the day and
conditions were almost perfect as
Dani Pedrosa opened proceedings
with a parade lap aboard his MotoGP
Honda to warm up the crowd for
two hours of non-stop FMX action.
Riders were throwing down Quarter-
Pipe Flairs, Double Backfl ip combos
and 360 combos.
Sherwood’s winning run was
a display of absolute dominance
and not only included two Double
Backfl ips but a perfect 360 Nac-Nac.
He took no chances in his pursuit
of victory, stripping 16kg off his bike
and 10kg off himself.
“I’m fascinated with making
stuff better and seeing the sport
progress,” said Sherwood, “Up to
now, our abilities nearly exceeded
what our bikes could do. Now, I’m
riding my bike and can’t keep up
with what it can do. It’s opened up
a whole new ballgame of what I’m
able to achieve.”
The impact was obvious as
Sherwood whipped his bike around
like it was a BMX. In the end, four
judges awarded Sherwood four
helmets and the win, with the
remaining helmet going to Sheehan.

says he’s pumped. “It’s nice to
be back and to be part of a brand
that I have had so much success
with in the past,” he said.
“I’ve won four championships
with Kawasaki and it’s been
around 10 years since I’ve ridden
one so it’s wonderful to be back
and to be a part of that again.
Carroll said Reardon would have
a huge impact. “We can defi nitely
see him landing the KX450F on
the podium throughout the series.
We know what Dan is capable of,
we know he has a strong work
ethic and he is determined, so to
say that we are excited would be
an understatement,” Carroll said.
Reardon won the 2015 ASX
championship for Yamaha after
three years in retirement.
“Unfortunately, last year I had
a major knee injury and, once I got
that fi xed, I went to America.”
Round one is on 23 September
in Jimboomba, Qld.
