Australasian Dirt Bike — September 2017

I HAVE SPENT the past
month continuing to work on
my plans for next year,
making steady progress on
#Project 04 and putting some
more hours into my 2016
YZ250 two-stroke.
I would be lying if I said I
wasn’t missing riding at the
moment, and while the break
has been great I am starting
to feel a little bored.
I can’t wait to get back out
there but I don’t have any
plans to do any motocross
events this year.
Earlier this month I went to
the Hangtown AMA Pro
Motocross round and I loved
being there, seeing the fans
and taking it all in, but no part
of me wanted to be out there.
That may change next year
but I am watching and the
tracks just don’t look like they
are what they used to be.

A lot of people have asked
me about the battle between
Eli Tomac and Blake Baggett
in the AMA and who I think is
likely to win.
In my opinion, it is still Eli’s
title to lose and he has had a
couple of bad races. The same
mistake that cost him the
supercross title seems to be
affecting him on the
motocross track.
In the races I have watched
he still seems to be losing the
front, which is catching him
off guard.
I think he has some issues
that he is fighting and trying
to figure out.
There is no denying Blake
has been working hard but I
still think Eli can bring this
one home.
Blake was not in contention
for the supercross title so he
was also able to turn his focus

to his motocross campaign a
lot earlier than Eli could which
showed in the opening
rounds. I wake up each
Saturday morning and watch
the live stream so there is a
part of me that is still
massively involved.
I do really want to get out
and ride supercross but, until

I finalise my plans, the focus
is on building #Project 04.
I recently had the frame
powder-coated and Factory
Effex did an awesome job on a
graphics kit for my plastics.
We have had to wait to get the
skidplate and waterpump tabs
but I am hoping it won’t be
too long until I can hit the
track on this bike.
Even though I am based in
the United States, I still try to
keep track of what is going on
in the sport in Australia and I
was really pleased to read
that Motorcycling Australia
has strengthened its board
with new members including
Prodrive Racing Australia
boss Tim Edwards.
Tim is a great guy with
extensive international
motorsport experience. I am
sure he will be a huge asset to
MA and the relevant sports.
