Canadian Rockies, I
couldn’t help but feel
overwhelmed by the surroundings.
The mountains were enormous and
the elevation changes were huge, the
perfect place for Husky to show off
its new two-stroke fuel injection.
TheBritishColumbianresortisat
1500mabovesealevelandwewere
told that we’d be climbing to the
Panorama summit at over 2600m.
ThetestloopthattheHuskycrew
hadmappedoutwastechnicalbut
we did get to experience what it was
like to hold it wide open up some
pristine ski slopes.
Themajorityoftheloopwasfroman
annual three-hour cross-country race
thatisrunonthemountainevery
year.It’sa15kmloopthatwindsits
wayaroundtheresortanditwasareal
eye opener. So were the bikes.
Firstly,Iwanttopointoutthatthe
TE250iand300iwerodewere
pre-production models and that there
willbeafairbitof development
beforetheyhitourshores.Myfirst
bike was the TE250i and right away I
noticedthattheoilinjectionsystem
producesalotlesssmoke.
Even when the bike was dead cold,
the exhaust produced very little
smokeanditrevvedcleanlythanksto
theTransferPortInjectiondeveloped
bysisterbrandKTM.AsItookoffup
themountain,Icouldn’thelpbut
enjoyhowlinearthepowerwas.

Inthetight,the250justcruised
along and never got out of shape or
made me feel uncomfortable. The
motor is incredibly smooth, almost
too smooth for a 250 really, but I
thinkalotofriderswilllikethat
because it won’t tire them out.
Asweclearedthefirstsingletrack
sectionitwastimefortheuphillski
run. Basically, click third and hold it
pinnedtothetop.Ihelditwidefor
thatlongIgotworriedthatthebike
wasgoingtoleanoutbut,thankfully,
thefuelinjectionwasdoingitsjoband
we made it to the top with no dramas.

The TE300i was our favourite but Braico
reckons his fully rejetted 2017 model
has a bit more snap off the bottom
