Forthelocalguysandgalswho
took on the roles of sweeps under the
directionoftrackbossGraham
WilsonandheadsweepBenSmith,
thelead-upwasn’tgreatfun.About
six weeks in, flooding brought track
marking to a grinding halt. Then,
with two weeks to go, the sweeps had
to redo about 10km.
It took 12 weeks all-up. “There are
blokes that spend months coming out
onthetrack,leavingtheirfamiliesat
home. They work all week and they
have to come out [on weekends] to
findthetracksandmarkout,”says
Graham. “Yep, they absolutely hate
it.” Fortunately, their efforts paid off
becauseweheardnothingbutgood
