Individuals, schools, institutions, universities and professional associations have
contributed to this book through different kinds of participation.
This edited volume reflects the core business of the Australian Association for
Research in Education (AARE) to support Australian educational researchers and to
facilitate the sharing of their research. With 30 contributors from 20 institutions, the
authorship represents nearly half of the universities in Australia. The empirical
research presented in the chapters would have touched the lives of hundreds of pre-
service teachers, scholars, academics and administrators and, through them, thou-
sands of Australian young people. In the end, it is the future of Australian children
that motivates such an edition, and it is the vision of a better future that sustains the
project. We thank those who have participated for their enormous good will and for
sharing our vision.
We salute AARE who provided seed funding towards the initial working confer-
ence and Springer, particularly Nick Melchior, for supporting this project. In the
final phase of the project, manuscripts were subject to anonymous peer review. We
are grateful to the scholars who were so generous with their time and guidance.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to Central Queensland University for the
use of their superb facilities for the initial working conference held in late January
2016 and the University of Melbourne for supporting the final process through man-
uscript preparation.
Special thanks are extended to our families for all their support and
understanding.
