KISSED BY ASSIST
Do you have roadside assist? If you don’t, give
yourself an uppercut every day until you do.
I just arrived back from Perth a er visiting
family, covering just over 9000km of which
1000km were extra.
Leaving Mandurah on Friday May 4, I
camped at Norseman, which was close to
800km for the day with no indication of what
was going to occur the next day.
The morning was cool, but not cold, and I
soon se led into a good pace. My BMW K 1600
GT was giving me some vibration through the
handlebars, which was coming and going, so I
put it down to the road.

At Balladonia (10am) I stopped for fuel and,
when I went to move off , the shudder through
the bars was massive and the noise alarming.
The issue? A collapsed front wheel bearing.
My assist is with BMW and a er about 10
minutes they called back to let me know that a
tow truck had been organised to take the bike
to the nearest BMW dealer, which was back in
Perth, 1000km away. My tow bloke, Terry Lynch,
arrived at about 5pm and he said we would have
to stay overnight in Kalgoorlie before going to
Perth. I rang assist and they arranged a room at
Rydges in Kal for the night and we arrived there
at 11.30pm.
