notanunreasonablethingtoexpectthe
splinesonagearchangeshafttobeless
thanpristineaftersuchapassageoftime.
BurtonBikeBitshaveahandyrepairshaft
availabletoreplacethesplinedpartwhich
doeswearratherthanthewholegearchange
quadrantwhichdoesn’twearallthatmuch.
Theoldshaftneedsremovingandthenew
oneisweldedinplace,jobdone.Theshaft
issuitableforanumberofBSAmodelsand
somesmallerTr iumphstooaccordingtothe
listontheirwebsite.

It doesn’tmatterwhatmakeyourbikeis,
withoutsparkit’sanornament.Oneofthe
problemsfacingownersofmoremodern
twinshockandevomachinerynowcomingin
totheclassicsceneistheignitionscontain
componentswhicharenotownerserviceable
inthewayolderignitionswere.Onceyouadd
inthatoftensuchignitionpartsareprobably
obsoletenow,thenit startstogetinteresting.
Luckilyforownersof‘B’and‘C’modelsof
Yamaha’sDT360/400,Rex’sSpeedshopcan
helpsolveyourignitionwoeswiththeirPulser-
lessCDi/pick-uprepairkit.Thesemodels
haveablackplasticpick-upthatisnolonger
obtainableadditionally,neitherthepick-upor
theCDiwereagooddesigntostartwith,both
areknowntocauseproblemsandit’sdifficult
totell whatiscausingtheproblem.
Rex’spulser-lessCDiunitdoesawaywith
thistroublesomepick-up.Nootherchanges
tothechargingorelectricalsystemare
needed,eventheHTcoilsstaysthesame!
Downside?Thebackplateofthegenerator
needstheadjustmentslotselongatingwhich
meanssettingthetimingwithastrobelamp,
butotherwisethisisanextremelyneat
solution.

replacementsilencerinlightweight

whichmakesit easierhasgottobegood.
