T
here’sabit of personalinvolvement
in this event as the CastlesideTrials
Club is ‘my’ club...and if I’dnot
riddenthis one therewouldhave
beenraisedeyebrowsfrom the committee.
The Kia seriesis apopularone for people
of my age groupand tendsto featurethe
bikes we rode in the Seventiesin sections

rode in the Fifties and Sixties.
So, traditionalSeventiestrialsbikes on a
course Ifor one have beenridingon since
thosedays. Unlikethe smallercourses
forcedon organisersbythe spreadof the
urbansprawl and the motorway infrastructure,
this particularcourse at Lambshieldnear
Edmundbyershas survivedand is pretty much
as it has beenfor long beforeIrode on it.
Approximately11 milesround,it is typical
North East Centreterrain of moorland and
rockystreams,with the occasionalhill climb
thrownin for goodmeasure.
One thingnot quitetraditionalat this event
wasthe weather...it wasbrilliantsunshine
and almostwarm for March...thoseof us
familiarwith the area were impressedwith
the waythe Kia lads had fetchedthefine
weatheras normallyit is ‘lessfine’.
As well as traditionalbikes and sections
the traditionalwayofmarking is in favour
here –that of ‘maintainforward motion’.
This is amuch moresensiblemethodfor
trialsthan the supertrick ‘X-treme’arena
influencedmarking.Think we’reoff the mark?
Have alook at the full entrylists of trials
usingsuch marking.
