Houses Australia — Issue 118 2017

(Grace) #1

Joanna Murray-Smith, Playwright
We are temporary custodians of our house. Before us, it held other people’s stories and after us, it
will hold more. We have the privilege of a fleeting opportunity: to make our time in it reflect who we
are. The result is a mixture of passion, fashion, inheritance and haphazard events. The unconscious
curation of objects is more important than the conscious one, but an interesting life has both.
