Independent front suspension. It is a strut and spring set up. The lift here has
to work within the limits of the control arms and bump stops without changing
the CV joint angle too much. With full down travel the upper bump stop will hit
and with full up travel there is lower bump stop that will limit travel as well.

This is the front end of an 80 Series we were working on. Being solid axle,
they are much easier to modify as all components are readily available with
no real limiting factors in design. In this picture we have a three-inch spring
but it has been done with a lighter load spring, and four-inch shocks to allow
the spring to extend completely to its full length. Letting the spring extend
completely gives you a lot more travel which allows for a lot more articulation
and traction. Yes, modifications like this will require engineering but the
difference in design from a solid axle front to a independent front suspension
make modification a lot easier.
