Shhh, don’t tell your favorite red-checkered table wine, but you should invite Montepulciano d’Abruzzo to your next spaghetti night. This energetic
red (try Valle Reale Montepulciano d’Abruzzo or Vini Rabasco “Cancelli” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo) features vibrant cherry and cranberry notes
that bring out the best in acidic tomato sauces, while herbal notes play nicely off meatballs as the tannins cut through all that juicy goodness. Only
downside? Montepulciano doesn’t do the dishes, but hey—isn’t that what the other guests are for? MARISSA A. ROSS

A SOLID SALAD
You want something
crunchy (iceberg),
something vinegary
(pickled peppers),
and something soft
(mozzarella balls),
plus a bracing
vinaigrette.
