HEFNER

THE ICONIC COVERS
Playboy has sold millions of copies since its
first issue in 1953. Kim Kardashian’s 2007
cover is reportedly the second highest-selling
edition, with Marilyn Monroe’s the highest.

BURIED NEXT
TO MARILYN
In 1992, Hef paid around
$95,000 for the burial plot
next to his first 1953 magazine
cover girl, Marilyn Monroe.

fter passing away at age 91,
Hugh Hefner was laid to rest
alongside the original Playboy
cover girl, Marilyn Monroe,
during a private burial in LA
on September 30. The mogul,
who once mused, ‘In my wildest dreams,
I could not have imagined a sweeter life,’
was buried surrounded by a close circle
of friends and staff, along with his wife
Crystal, 31, his daughter Christie, 64, and
sons David, 62, Marston, 27, and Cooper, 26.
Though the publishing powerhouse was
worth an estimated $63 million at the time
of his death, his wife of five years signed an
‘iron-clad’ agreement that stops her from
getting his fortune. However, insiders say
she will be ‘looked after’ with more than
$6 million in cash and the $8.9 million LA
mansion Hef bought her in 2014.
‘I am heartbroken. I am in disbelief,’ says
the model, who’s 60 years his junior.
Some of his former house bunnies have
also shared their condolences, like Kendra
Wilkinson, who was one-third of the Girls
Next Door trio. ‘Hef changed my life. He
made me the person I am today,’ she says.
Bridget Marquardt, who was also on the
show from 2005 to 2009, adds that she’ll
be ‘forever grateful’ to him.
But while many are remembering Hugh
fond ly, some insist he ought not to be revered.
‘[He was] a revolutionary whose revolution
chiefly benefitted men much like himself,’
wrote a New York Times columnist.
