STARS RALLY AROUND

THE VEEP ACTRESS

J

ust a day after Seinfeld star Julia Louis-
Dreyfus won her record sixth Emmy for
her role on Veep, the actress received a
shock medical diagnosis, and turned to
Twitter on September 29 to share the sad
news with fans: the 56-year-old has breast
cancer. Determined to remain positive at a very
tough time, the mother-of-two wrote, ‘The good
news is that I have the most glorious group of
supportive and caring family and friends... let’s fight.’
Famous faces rallied around the fan favourite,
praising her for highlighting healthcare issues in
America through her Twitter post. ‘Julia, you’re
in our thoughts and our hearts. Inspired but not
surprised to see you using your platform for good
in this difficult moment,’ Hillary Clinton wrote
alongside a retweet. Fellow actress Lena Dunham
also professed her support, sharing: ‘I love
@OfficialJLD, she’s one of the strongest people
I know and cancer is gonna be real sorry it tried
any weird moves on her.’
Breast cancer survivor Christina Applegate also
reached out via social media, tweeting, ‘Let’s talk...’
nine years after she herself was diagnosed with
breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy.
Since announcing her diagnosis, Julia hasn’t
revealed any further details about the cancer
itself or her treatment, but her rep did thank
her fans for the love. ‘Julia is incredibly grateful
for the outpouring of
support and well wishes.’
