Ultimately, Dalton believes the most
important thing is to feel good about
yourself and to stay motivated. And that
means finding ways to keep fit and healthy
that you’ll enjoy doing week in, week out.
‘Whether it’s a sport or a gym class, you
need to like what you’re doing so it doesn’t
feel like exercise,’ he explains.

feel like hard work? Sign us up for that!

  1. BREAK UP YOUR ROUTINE
If you’re short on time, try breaking up your

If you’re not a fan
of running, Dalton
suggests taking
a morning walk,
‘just to get

workouts into four 15-minute
intervals that you can spread out
during the day or early evening as
summer approaches. ‘A lot of people
might not have the hour to commit
to doing something, but lots of
people have 15 minutes,’
explains Dalton. Or take
a tip from JLaw herself,
and start the day with
a 20- to 30-minute jog
or power walk as a
‘wake-up’ method to
get your day started.

  1. UP YOUR
    FLUID INTAKE
A lot of us forget to
    drink enough water,
    but studies have
    found that staying
    properly hydrated
    can save you up to
    200 calories a day!
    ‘You don’t have to slam
    back water all the time,
but you have to sip water
    throughout the day,’ Dalton says.

  2. FOLLOW THE RULE OF TWO
Eating out can throw a serious
spanner in the works, but Dalton
recommends a simple rule of two.
    To keep portions under control

when you’re trying to lose weight,
order a starter followed by a second
entrée in place of a main course.

  1. MAKE SURE YOU GET
    ENOUGH ZZZs
    Sleep deprivation has been
    linked to weight gain, but
    getting enough shut-eye
    can be a challenge when
    you’re as busy as Jen.
    ‘I’ve always told her that
    when you’re travelling
    and you arrive somewhere
    and you’re really
    fatigued, have
    a power nap,’
    Dalton reveals.
    ‘Relax. Let your
    body recharge.
    Try not to burn
    the candle at
    both ends.’

  2. IT’S OK TO GIVE
    IN TO TEMPTATION...
    SOMETIMES
‘One thing I said [ Jennifer] could
have occasionally was 75 per cent
    dark chocolate,’ Dalton adds. ‘I’d
rather give you something you want,
like a little bit of dark chocolate,
than have you not eat it and crave
    a whole chocolate bar.’

GET THE MOST OUT

OF YOUR VITAMINS

The best time to take vitamins
is with your evening meal,
according to nutritionist
Dr Sarah Brewer. B vitamins
are an exception, as they
can keep you awake. ‘Don’t
take vitamins on an empty
stomach because they can
cause irritation,’ she says. ‘And
don’t take them with tea or coffee, as
these may interfere with absorption.’

Next time you’re in need
of a quick energy boost, grab
a handful of pecans. They’re
packed with vitamins, protein
and heart-healthy fats,
which will keep you
feeling fuller for
longer.
