Mum-of-three Tara Pitt,
32, says the struggle on
the Samoan beach was
real. ‘Any time it rained,
I was hungry or missing my
kids, I wanted to go home,’
she admits. After losing 11kg
on the island, the barrel
racer says she was ‘scoffing
food’ once out, but there
was also another unusual
luxury item she missed.
‘I remember when I got to
the hotel I just sat on the
toilet. I didn’t need to go,
but sat on it anyway, just
because I could.’‘Out of everyone, I think
I got the least sleep,’ says
Jericho Malabonga, 25. His
lack of shut-eye, however,
was due to FOMO. ‘Middle-
of-the-night talks were
important to overhear,’
laughs the flight attendant.
His paranoia hasn’t served
him well back in the real
world, either. ‘I got home
and someone would cook
me eggs and I’d be thinking,
“What’s your agenda?”’
He’s also wary of female
admirers. ‘I’ve got to be
careful now. Who knows
what they’ll screenshot?’Michelle Dougan’s shocked
she’s still on the show. Not
only was she almost first
out – ‘I accidentally put my
hand in everyone’s drinking
water, which got my name
out there,’ she says – but
nature was also working
against her. The nanny, 33,
explains, ‘I was stung by
three wasps, had two really
bad bouts of trench foot,
which I’m still dealing with,
and earlier on I was bitten- they think it was a spider...
or maybe a rat – and I had
24 hours for it to go down,
or I was going home.’
Digital advertising producer
Peter Conte may appear
to be the silent type on
the show, but in real life,
he’s the bubbliest castaway
out there. ‘I feel a little bit
down about my edit,’ he
admits. ‘I found I was a little
bit invisible.’ So what did
we miss? A whole lot of
quirk – and even a smooch!
‘I celebrated my birthday on
the island and AK tried to
give me a sneaky kiss,’ Pete,
22, chuckles. Did it happen?
