HE’S TAKING OVER OUR SCREENS – AND WE’RE NOT COMPLAINING!

THE HOTTEST

WEEK IN HISTORY

MOVIE

The Gos gives us...

C

an someone get us a bucket
of cold water – stat?! Ryan
Gosling’s coming at us twice
over this week. The 36-year-
old appears in Blade Runner
2049, the sequel to one of
the greatest sci-fi flicks in history, as well
as indie flick Song to Song. Let’s just say,
we know where we’ll be this weekend!
For those who haven’t seen the 1982
Blade Runner classic, Ryan says it’s all good.
‘You can see [the sequel] without having seen
the original,’ he assures. And that we will!
Here, the hunky father-of-two opens
up about being punched in his (beautiful)
face by co-star Harrison Ford, making
more movies with Emma Stone and his
sex symbol status. Enjoy!

So you’re a big Blade Runner fan?
I was a fan, of course. I watched it when
I was 13. Obviously, it had been out for
a couple of years prior. I used to live in
downtown LA, where a lot of it was shot,
and we used to pretend we were Blade
Runners, so this is a cool job for me.

What was it like working with the
legend that is Harrison Ford?
Yeah, I mean, there’s no other way of
approaching him. It’s Harrison Ford. He’s
an icon – it’s bizarre being in his presence.
I never thought that I would work with
him... He’s a lot funnier than I expected.
Way funnier. He’s a one-liner machine.

Was he a big part of your childhood?
He is why we all do what we do. He’s
inspiring, his work is iconic, he’s the best.

Working with him every day on set, I felt
reborn as an actor – he replenished my
passion for work.

Is it true that he punched you?
Will I say it was my fault because my
face leaned in a little too close to his fist?
It happens. It’s not something I’m ashamed
of. If it’s going to happen, let it be delivered
by Harrison Ford. It was a privilege.

You’re also a fan of working with Emma
Stone – you’ve been in three movies
together! Can we expect another?
If she’ll have me. [Laughs] I hope. She’s
a busy person. She’s probably forgotten
all about me.

You must have been so happy for
her when she won her Oscar...
I was so happy for her, but I already knew
she’s the best.

OK, so your sex symbol status is a
constant for you, no matter what role
or movie. How do you deal with it?
I mean, I’m not that guy. [Laughs]

Is it weird for you?
I think... I don’t know, it’s not something
I contemplate ever.

But you must have fans coming
up to you all the time?
Not really. You just have to be OK
with that.

Blade Runner 2049 and Song
to Song are in cinemas now.
