I

t’s been a super-busy month at marie claire,
where we have celebrated the amazing talents of
our Australian design stars. First, we hosted our
prestigious fashion and beauty awards, the Prix
de marie claire, presented by Lexus, which
proved to be an unforgettable evening of
high-voltage glamour, gowns and breathtaking
moments (if you don’t believe me, look left at our
spectacular laser-lit fashion show). A colossal
thank you to everyone who made the night so
magical, especially all the makers and masters of the local
fashion industry who loudly cheered and toasted each other’s
wins. One of my favourite stories of the night came from Best
Australian Eveningwear winner Paolo Sebastian, who told the
crowd he refused to listen to naysayers warning he’d never suc-
ceed if he stayed based in his hometown of Adelaide. Well,
fast-forward 10 years and business is booming for the 27-year-
old, and now clients jet in from Dubai, London and Berlin just
for a fitting. Bravo Paolo!
Of course, the entire night would not have been possible
without wonderful support from our presenting partner Lexus
and our supporting partners Swarovski, Myer, Virgin
Australia and ghd. Check out all the fashion and beauty
winners and all of the highlights, from page 140.
Straight after Prix we held our inaugural ‘Search for a
Stylist’ competition at Sydney’s Macquarie Centre (page 186).
We were inundated with entries and I’d like to thank all the
budding stylists for taking the time to compile their
inspired looks. It was an incredibly tough decision, but Gold
Coast mum Yvette Hardy eventually scooped the prize after
an intense, two-hour live styling challenge. She now joins our
coveted influencer network, which means you can follow her
fashionable advice on styledbymarieclaire.com.au.
When I heard that more Australian women than ever – a
startling one in every three – are suffering from anxiety, I was
keen to look closer at this debilitating condition. While there
are many causes – work, family, stress, genetics, even sleep
deprivation – one thing is clear: this mental disorder is
non-discriminatory. We asked six very different women to
share their stories and reveal their proven methods of reduc-
ing anxiety. Interestingly enough, one stress-abating solution
is engaging more with nature. This month’s reportage is
devoted to the people who’ve
ditched their angst-ridden office
jobs in favour of the great
outdoors. Turn to page 30 for
some #lifegoals inspiration.
