HALF-UP
BRAIDED BUN
A super-chic braid that works for day,
night and everywhere in between.
PREP: Apply a leave-in or shine
treatment through the mid-lengths
and ends, and use a paddle brush to
blow-dry hair until it’s smooth.
PLAIT: Fashion a centre part, tilt your
head forward and secure hair into a
ponytail at the base of the neck. “Split
the tail into two sections, take a small
pinkie-size strand from the outside of
one section and add to the inside of the
opposite side,” says Beckett. “Repeat on
the other side, and continue all the way
to the end then tie off, leaving about two
inches at the bottom.” Next, gently pull
the braid apart for added volume, then
take a flatiron and press on the braid to
enhance the flatness and wideness.
PERFECT: “Rub a little bit of lightweight
oil (try Moroccanoil Treatment Light,
$59.95) between your palms, and apply
evenly over the surface of the hair for a
sleek finish,” suggests Beckett.
Use day-old texture to create a pretty
morning-after-the-party look.
PREP: Mist dry shampoo to cleanse
greasy roots (and add texture), or, if
starting with clean hair, apply oil,
thickening lotion and mousse (like
Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly
Mousse, $7.49) to towel-dried hair, and
use a diffuser to slowly dry off.
PLAIT: Using the end of your eyebrows
as a guide, fashion a triangle shape at
the top of your head. “Plait a three-piece
braid flat on the head, continue all the
way to end, and then put this aside
for a moment,” explains Peter Beckett,
hairstylist and Moroccanoil ambassador.
Mist dry texture spray over the rest of
the hair. Now, take two more pieces
of hair on either side of the head, just
above the tops of your ears, pull up
and secure with an elastic next to where
the flat braid hits the crown, ensuring
you leave the plait out. “Twist the
hair loosely around the elastic and pin,
then wrap the plait around the base of
the bun and pin,” says Beckett.
PERFECT: Use your fingers to rub the
bun, mid-lengths and ends, and any
flyaways to enhance the texture.
