“This works well on fine hair that sits just

below the shoulders,” advises Beckett.

PREP: Run a thickening lotion (such as

Fudge Big Hair Bodifying Style Whip, $19.95)

through wet strands, then rough dry using

low heat and a slow speed. Once hair is dry,

mist a texture spray from roots to ends for

grittiness and added volume.

PLAIT: “Pull your hair into a rough ponytail,

positioning it right at the crown. This

placement gives the side profile a great

extension from the cheekbones,” explains

Beckett. “Then, take a thumb-size amount of

hair and make a simple three-strand braid,

securing it about two inches from the end

with an elastic.”

PERFECT: Finish with a little more texture

spray through the tail.
